Top sealing is an innovative packaging method used to keep foods fresh and extend their shelf life. Top-sealing involves applying a special film airtight to a dish/tray or container. This process protects the product from external influences such as oxygen, moisture and bacteria, thus preserving quality, freshness and taste for longer.

Top sealing is an essential technique in the food industry and is widely used for meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, chocolate, cookies and ready meals.

Inline or stand alone?

Depending on production capacity and automation needs, companies can choose inline top sealing machines or stand alone top sealing machines. Both solutions have their own unique advantages and are suitable for different production environments.

Inline
top sealing machines

Rapid, automated solutions

Inline top sealing machines are designed to fully integrate into automated production lines and are ideal for high production capacity companies. These machines perform tray sealing seamlessly as part of a continuous production line, ensuring fast throughput and minimal manual intervention.

Benefits of Stand Alone Top Sealing machines from Tecnovac

Stand alone machines can be easily moved and smart tool change makes it simple to switch to other tray sizes or sealing methods.

Ideal for businesses with limited space without sacrificing performance.

Suitable for smaller production batches and easy to switch between different products and tray sizes. The top sealer also combines well with other machines next to or behind it.

Without the need for an extensive production line, stand alone machines are often more cost-effective for companies with lower production needs.

Different Types of Top Sealing

MAP-F Sealing

MAP-F stands for Modified Atmosphere Packaging - Flushing. MAP-F sealing involves replacing the air in the package with a mixture of gases, such as nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide. This modifies the atmosphere around the product, slowing the growth of bacteria and extending shelf life. This technique is ideal for meat, meals, appetizers, cheese and salads.

Vacuum sealing

Vacuum sealing involves removing all air from the package before it is sealed. This creates a vacuum environment in which bacteria can hardly develop. This method is often used for products such as deli meats, cheese and smoked fish, which require a longer shelf life.

MAP-V Sealing

MAP-V stands for Modified Atmosphere Packaging - Vacuum
MAP-V sealing is a combination of vacuum sealing and the use of a modified gas mixture. After the vacuum process, the package is filled with a specific gas combination that further promotes product freshness. This technique is especially effective for fish, meat and ready meals.

Skin-packing

In skin-packing, the film is pulled tightly around the product, like a second skin. This completely protects the product from oxidation and dehydration, while maintaining its natural shape and presentation. This method is perfect for premium meat and fish products.

Atmospheric Sealing

Atmospheric sealing simply seals the product under normal air conditions, without the use of modified gas mixtures or a vacuum. This is a quick and cost-effective solution for products with a short shelf life or where less stringent packaging requirements are required. This method also protects the product from damage. This technique is ideal for fresh fruits and vegetables and frozen products.
