Flow packing, also known as flow wrapping, is a packaging method in which a product is wrapped in a continuous stream of film. The film is wrapped around the product and sealed airtight at both ends. As a result, this technique is ideal for food products such as fruits and vegetables. It provides effective protection against external influences such as air, moisture and bacteria.

How does flowpacking work?

During the flowpack process, the product is placed on a conveyor belt and passed through a machine. In the process, it is wrapped with film and sealed at the edges and ends, resulting in an airtight package. Depending on the product characteristics and desired shelf life, different types of films can be used, such as barrier films or recyclable materials.

Our flowpack solutions
for the fresh produce industry

At Het Packhuys we offer a variety of flowpack machines that perfectly fit the needs of the fresh produce industry. Whether you choose a horizontal or vertical flowpacker, we have the right solution for you.

Various types of flowpacking

HFFS flowpacking

Horizontal flow packers are ideal for packing products that need to be processed lying down, such as cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes. These machines offer high processing speed and provide tight, attractive packaging.

MAP Flow packing

Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) is a technique in which the air in the packaging is replaced with a gas mixture, which extends the shelf life of the product. This method is particularly suitable for fresh fresh produce-products that are prone to oxidation and bacterial growth.

Peelable and recyclable Flowpacks

For consumers who value convenience and sustainability, we offer peelable and recyclable flow packs. These packs are easy to open and contribute to a more environmentally friendly packaging process.

The benefits of flowpacking

Flow packs can be printed with brand logos and product information, which also contributes to a professional and attractive presentation on the shelves. This helps increase product visibility and appeal, which can lead to increased sales.

Whether for single products, multipacks or fragile foods, flowpacking offers a solution for many products. The flexibility of the system allows packaging to be customized to the specific needs of the customer.

An additional advantage in the production process is that no trays and therefore no (tray) de-nester is needed, as the loose product goes directly into the film and is sealed.

With the emergence of recyclable and compostable films, flowpacking also offers a sustainable packaging solution. This allows companies to meet environmental and circular economy packaging goals without compromising on product protection or quality.

Flow packing is a very fast and efficient method of packaging, increasing productivity and reducing packaging costs. It is a continuous and automated packaging method, making it ideal for companies looking to process large quantities of food products.

The airtight seal of flow packs provides protection against external influences such as moisture, oxygen and bacteria. This extends shelf life and maintains product quality, which is important for both freshness and food safety.
